To kick off 2017, we’re featuring Samantha. She took some time to tell us about her savings goals this year. Sam has some pretty extreme hobbies and is all about chasing her dreams (literally)!

Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Samantha Warren. I’m a full time Receptionist at an Engineering firm in Manhattan, New York. I live in New Jersey, but I’ve moved around quite a bit. I lived in Vermont for 3 years to get my Associates Degree at Landmark College, had an Internship with The Walt Disney World Company in Orlando, Florida, and lived in Colorado very briefly.

Now I’m a Part-time Transfer student at William Paterson University. I’m studying Sociology for now but trying to get into my school’s Popular Music Program. I also write for an online music magazine called

Are you saving for something special this year?

Now I’m starting to save up for my Storm Chasing Trip. Payments are usually done at the end of April, so now is a good time to start putting together my Chasing Fund. 🌪 🚗

Any new year’s resolutions you want to share?

I think my New Year’s resolution is to just be open to new things and new experiences. Try everything and anything even if I’m hesitant about it. Also, to stand up for myself more, and learn to say no. I also have more Weight Loss goals to accomplish. I lost 78 pounds total last year bringing me to 197. My first realistic goal was 180 pounds. I ultimately want to get to 150 at the end.

What’s the craziest thing on your bucket list?

If you asked me that 4 years ago I would have told you Storm Chasing. I crossed that off and now I’m kind of obsessed with it, and weather in general. It’s a sick hobby, and the guys I chase with are good dudes. (Shout out to Extreme Tornado Tours). And no, I haven’t seen any flying cows.

A fun fact (or a few) about yourself?

I’m a hopeless romantic nerd. Gift and a curse. I actually went to my first Comic Con in Rhode Island last month and it was AWESOME. I met the Bulk and Skull from the Power Rangers as well as Jason David Frank and Amy Jo Johnson. I had a big fan girl moment. I had a Pink Power Ranger outfit as a kid I ALWAYS wore. (Even when it wasn’t Halloween. Sorry, Mom.)

If you could either go back in time 5 years OR get $100,000 now, which would you choose? Why?

I think I would choose $100,000. 5 years ago my life was a hot mess (and I can admit that), but I over-came a lot of obstacles and really beat the odds and pushed myself to some heavy limits. I’m proud of everything I’ve accomplished, and I wouldn’t change that. In the past year I’ve also been published online, and I’ve lost 75 pounds. I had the Gastric Sleeve done last January. Still a long way to go, but I wouldn’t want to go back to the way I was. Now I’m at the gym again 3x a week getting my butt kicked by my trainer. It’s a lifestyle change.
